Mavis Batey was the Bletchley Park codebreaker whose Enigma breakthrough proved crucial to the success of D-Day.  She died last week, age 92.  Although her work breaking ciphers during World War II was exemplary, she was awarded the MBE in 1987 for preserving historic gardens.
