{"id":688,"date":"2012-01-12T07:33:12","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T15:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/?p=688"},"modified":"2012-01-09T12:40:34","modified_gmt":"2012-01-09T20:40:34","slug":"os-x-tip-reboot-your-dock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/12\/os-x-tip-reboot-your-dock\/","title":{"rendered":"OS X tip: reboot your Dock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a Dock minimalist. \u00a0There are only three applications that live in my Dock: mail, web, IM. \u00a0Everything else is launched via Spotlight search. \u00a0I like having an uncluttered Dock, and I like that my Dock only ever shows the applications that I have open.<\/p>\n<p>Every once in awhile, my Dock will stop updating itself. \u00a0It won&#8217;t show when I&#8217;ve launched an application that lives in my Dock, and it won&#8217;t show additional apps that I&#8217;ve launched. \u00a0When this happens, it always throws me off to discover that I&#8217;ve got an app open that isn&#8217;t showing in m Dock.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, there&#8217;s a quick fix for this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch Activity Monitor, which is located in \/Applications\/Utilities\/<\/li>\n<li>In the list of open applications, select Dock and then click the Quit button in the toolbar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve done this, your Dock will disappear for a couple of seconds. \u00a0It will relaunch itself, and the newly-launched Dock should now be correct.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a Dock minimalist. \u00a0There are only three applications that live in my Dock: mail, web, IM. \u00a0Everything else is launched via Spotlight search. \u00a0I like having an uncluttered Dock, and I like that my Dock only ever shows the applications that I have open.
