{"id":450,"date":"2011-06-16T14:42:19","date_gmt":"2011-06-16T21:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/?p=450"},"modified":"2011-06-16T17:07:39","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T00:07:39","slug":"guest-appearance-on-the-angry-mac-bastards-podcast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/16\/guest-appearance-on-the-angry-mac-bastards-podcast\/","title":{"rendered":"guest appearance on the Angry Mac Bastards podcast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somehow, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bynkii.com\/\">John Welch<\/a> suckered me into doing a guest appearance on the <a href=\"http:\/\/angrymacbastards.blogspot.com\/\">Angry Mac Bastards<\/a> podcast with him, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theangrydrunk.com\/\">Darby Lines<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikkabik.com\/\">Peter Cohen<\/a>. \u00a0I jumped on the bandwagon this week, mostly to have the opportunity to talk about the recent controversy surrounding Violet Blue&#8217;s blog post about WWDC. \u00a0I&#8217;ve already written about it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/14\/sexism-trolling-and-not-helping\/\">here<\/a>, so you already know where I stand on the topic.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Peter asked me about Blue&#8217;s assertion that Apple has a monoculture and whether there was something that Apple should do about it. \u00a0I said no at the time, but later John mentioned the work that he does to try to get more female speakers at Macworld Expo. \u00a0I&#8217;m one of those people: John tracked me down (hmmm, I&#8217;m noticing a trend here) and suggested that I put together a talk. \u00a0I did, and ended up <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/nadyne\/archive\/2009\/12\/07\/macworld-expo-session-administering-macs-in-exchange-2007-2003.aspx\">speaking a couple of times at Macworld<\/a>, which then led into a couple of talks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/05\/exchange-connections-slides\/\">Exchange Connections<\/a> too.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t attend WWDC this year, but I have several times in the past. \u00a0I can&#8217;t recall seeing a woman on stage giving a talk. \u00a0Maybe I just didn&#8217;t attend the right sessions, or maybe it was different this year. \u00a0Unless there was suddenly a huge influx, that&#8217;s one thing that I think that Apple could do: get some more women on stage. \u00a0I&#8217;ve met plenty of Apple women who are qualified to give technical presentations. \u00a0Get &#8217;em up there. \u00a0It&#8217;s an awesome experience, and that kind of example and mentorship would be a great intangible benefit of WWDC.<\/p>\n<p>The full topic list for my appearance is <a href=\"http:\/\/angrymacbastards.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/episode-115-is-up.html\">here<\/a>, and you can download the podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/angrymacbastardsaudio.s3.amazonaws.com\/podcasts\/amb_ep111-20110517.m4a\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Somehow, John Welch suckered me into doing a guest appearance on the Angry Mac Bastards podcast with him, Darby Lines, and Peter Cohen. \u00a0I jumped on the bandwagon this week, mostly to have the opportunity to talk about the recent controversy surrounding Violet Blue&#8217;s blog post about WWDC. \u00a0I&#8217;ve already written about it here, so &hellip;
