{"id":1564,"date":"2014-10-24T07:45:17","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T14:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/?p=1564"},"modified":"2014-10-24T14:46:40","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T21:46:40","slug":"43-gb-of-mysterious-other-on-my-iphone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/24\/43-gb-of-mysterious-other-on-my-iphone\/","title":{"rendered":"43 GB of mysterious &#8220;other&#8221; on my iPhone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This afternoon, I ran into a problem with iTunes 8 and iOS 8 on my iPhone 5. \u00a0When I connected my iPhone, iTunes said that I had 43 GB of &#8220;other&#8221; data on my phone. \u00a0I had no idea what it was.<\/p>\n<p>After much wrangling, I finally came up with a solution that did work.<\/p>\n<p>On the iPhone, I erased it (Settings -&gt; General -&gt; Reset -&gt; Erase All Content and Settings). \u00a0Then, after the iPhone finished erasing, I reconnected it to iTunes, and let it restore from backup. \u00a0At first, I thought it didn&#8217;t work because the iTunes screen still showed the big yellow bar of &#8220;other&#8221; data. \u00a0A couple of minutes later, it refreshed, and suddenly I had &lt;1GB of &#8220;other&#8221;. \u00a0I did have to reboot my phone and my Mac a couple of times each during this process to get it to work, and I had to sync twice to get all onto the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Whew!<\/p>\n<p><em>(Edited to add in some reboots.)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This afternoon, I ran into a problem with iTunes 8 and iOS 8 on my iPhone 5. \u00a0When I connected my iPhone, iTunes said that I had 43 GB of &#8220;other&#8221; data on my phone. \u00a0I had no idea what it was.
