{"id":1065,"date":"2013-01-17T07:39:01","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T15:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/?p=1065"},"modified":"2013-01-17T07:41:38","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T15:41:38","slug":"booth-babes-at-ces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nadynerichmond.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/17\/booth-babes-at-ces\/","title":{"rendered":"booth babes at CES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a part of the Systers mailing list, and we had a discussion about the booth babes at CES. \u00a0Systers doesn&#8217;t make its mailing list archives public, but does have a Best of Systers blog wherein someone will write a blog article and use (with permission) quotes from the discussion. \u00a0I was one of the quotes in <a href=\"http:\/\/anitaborg.org\/news\/archive\/dear-ces-objectification-is-calling\/\">Dear CES, Objectification is Calling<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I think it\u2019s also important for us\u2026 who work for companies who have booths at conventions and conferences to remind our companies that we don\u2019t want to be represented by booth babes. \u00a0If our companies sponsor their own conferences, I think that we should raise the concern about booth babes. \u00a0In this case, it\u2019s not enough to just make sure that our showcase booths not have booth babes, we should also figure out how to keep vendors who have booths at our conferences from having booth babes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the things that I have to admit that bothered me about my quote in that article is seeing it in context. \u00a0Of the five quotes there, I&#8217;m the only one who consented to have my full name used. \u00a0Two were completely anonymous. \u00a0I understand why someone would make the decision to either only use their first name<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-1065-1' id='fnref-1065-1' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(1065)'>1<\/a><\/sup> or be fully anonymous. \u00a0I&#8217;m just sad that those Systers felt that they needed to be anonymous.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, booth babes weren&#8217;t the only women at CES. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolmomtech.com\/2013\/01\/meet_the_women_of_ces_2013.php\">Meet the women of CES 2013<\/a>, nary a booth babe in sight.<\/p>\n<div class='footnotes' id='footnotes-1065'>\n<div class='footnotedivider'><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li id='fn-1065-1'> Which isn&#8217;t really an option for me.
